2012 #17 & #18 Table Runner

oh no, look what I found, more of the shapes I cut out a few years ago.
Not enough to make a quilt (maybe), so I decided to use these for more table runners.
First the reds.
Now for an orange table runner

A few pairs of handwarmers for the Fingers and Gloves exhibition at the Guild.

No pattern used, just cast on 40 stitches, K2,P2 until I ran out of wool.  Fergus was very helpful modelling these

Toddler dresses

Pattern by Lion Brand Yarn, called Sweet Sweater Dress

using handspun wool.

198yards of Heaven

Handspun fibre from Alaska, "A tree huggers wife", I managed to knit this little shawl.  My first attempt at chain plying.

It's really warm around your neck, and so soft.

2012 #15 & #16 Table Runner

This last green table runner is the end of the 2"strip box.  There are only a few strips left that I can't do anything with at the moment.

Fibre March - June.

Lots and lots of spinning done this first half of the semester.  I found that after a day at the computer doing Uni work, and lots of reading, I needed a few hours in the evenings to wind down.  (Also the stress of external things got to me and it really wasn't a good start to the school year).

Spinning was the one thing that calmed me each evening.  I was surprised at how much I accomplished!

I spent a windy warm day washing all the yarn, then hung them out to dry on the tree on the front garden, much to the amusement of our neighbours. They were dry by the afternoon.
Then I spent the evening making them into balls.
A very production semester for spinning, now to knit them all into something

2012 #11 & #12 Table Runners

11th Table runner. Still using the 2" strips.
I wonder if I will ever see the bottom of this box of 2"strips.
There seems to be lots of green 2" strips in the collection.
So I have sorted them all out and started a few of this pattern.

Justin's hat

Handspun black merino top, finally knitted into a slouch hat for Justin's 21st.
Justin's birthday was in October 2011, and finally I finished this in March 2012. Lucky he has forgiven me for being so late.

I made it a bit longer

Kelly's Shawl

Kelly's birthday is in December.  Lucky that she loves me enough to know that I am usually late with her birthday present.  Last year has been no exception, so I haven't let me track record down.

Yarn is Misti Alpaca Lace Solid on 5mm needles.

The shawl is so soft and light and the main thing...Kelly loves it!

Indigo Dyeing

We had a lot of fun at our spinning group, while Jan explained Indigo Dyeing to us.  We all bought along some wool, fibre, cotton hankies and other things to dip into the dye pot.
See our day together on the Doncaster & Templestowe Spinners and Weavers Group

I took some of the fibre that I had spun at my Learn to Spin classes at the Guild.  It was interesting to see the different shades of blue that came out of the dye pot, depending how long you left it in the dye pot, and whether it was one of the first of last pieces to be dipped.

2012 #7 & #8 Table Runners

A blue nine patch...this box of 2" strips seems to be breeding when I am not looking, it still looks full!
A clean up of the study unearthed these left over shapes, that I cut out a few years ago for many colour graded quilts.  So I sewed them up together and had enough to make a table runner.

Handspun x 2 and plied

black merino from the spinners guild (it didn't photograph well) spun into a single
gorgeous fibre from "A Tree Hugger's Wife".  My mum bought this for me from her trip to Alaska.

After letting the single "rest" for a week, I chain plied it.  This is the first time I have done a lot full bobbin of chain ply..and it was great fun!
The black will be made into a hat, the Alaska yarn, I am not so sure yet....for the moment, I will just look at it and rub it against my cheeks.....it's so gorgeous!

Berlin Skyline Hat

I knit this while at the beach over the Summer.
Great Pattern called Berlin Skyline by Kimberly Gintar

I love that it reminds me of Berlin!  I knit it in Autumn colours, as that was my favourite time of the year...except for when there is lots of snow in Winter!

Flowers of Traken

My other beach project this year.  Knit in silk.  It still needs to be blocked.  It's so soft and light.  I love it!

Pinboards

When we first moved to Berlin, I made the boys a pinboard each to collect pins of all the different places we visited while we were in Europe.  After 6 years, the pinboards had been totally full.  I added an extra panel to the boys pinboards to keep adding pins to. They went through the quilting fabric and chose the colours they wanted.
Cameron's pinboard
Alexander's pinboard
I have been meaning to make myself a board as well, for my pins.  I finally got around to it, and stuck all my pins on it.  I really like it!

Felted Baskets

Inspired by a gorgeous grey felted bowl by Domestic Aesthetic , I thought I could try the same type of thing with a large piece of felted knitting that I had made years ago.  I had knit and felted the fabric to make a needle roll for my knitting needles. Once it was felted it was way too thick, so it has been sitting in the "no idea" box for quite some time.  So, I finally cut up the fabric to make these 2 felted bowls.  I love them, and they are a great size for me to keep the current knitting project together beside my chair! I searched through my odd button collection for suitable buttons, and sewed them on using DMC cottons.

2012 #3 & #4 Table Runners

The challenge....how many table runners can I make from this box of 2inch strips....
A good start, but it doesn't even look like I have taken any strips from the box...this is going to be an interesting challenge!

2012 #1 & #2 Table Runners

Well, we are living in a small house at the moment, and I do not have the space to create larger quilts.  At least with table runners I can still play with different patterns, and use up the stash.  Here is the first two, a simple 4 patch on point, and a four patch.

Bandana

Not very exciting  I know, but I am using up the stash this year, and it has been a warm start to the year, and I need a haircut.  In the meantime, I just made this bandana to get the hair off my face.  This is a great way to use up some of that special fabric..  I have also worn this bandana while out running, and it was great at keeping the hair from my face, so I may make a few more.  Fergus approves!

Quilted table runner for gifts

I had hoped to knit something for the kid's teachers for a Christmas present, but as the school fair took up most of my September - Dec, there was little time to be knitting 2 gifts as well, so I decided to make a few table runners, as I can do this a lot quicker than knitting.
